How it works
We start from a hot-climate load of about 26 BTU per square foot, then adjust for ceiling height, sun, insulation, occupants and kitchen heat, and round to the nearest standard size.
Why not just square feet?
Two 2,000 sq ft homes can need a full ton apart. A shaded, well-sealed house and a west-facing 1980s ranch are different problems.
What the price includes
Installed central systems include equipment, labor, permit, pad, line set and thermostat. Rebates from APS and SRP can lower the total.
